Since inception in 2004, acabellas singers have made significant contributions to the local cultural landscape.

As a singer with acabellas you will also be encouraged and inspired to write your own songs...be it words, a simple tune or a complex piece. This is recognition that we are all creative if we allow it. There is no pressure to write a song but there is a culture that supports and affirms creativity.

In 2009 singers from the groups were invited to write songs on the theme ‘In this Place’ and over 50 songs were submitted...more promised and on the way. These songs will inform the future repertoire of the groups and already have allowed for much personal and group growth as we share stories and value our local creativity.

This project follows the highly successful song writing project in 2007 where singers were invited to write on the theme ‘The Good Life.’ Contributions were developed, a CD released called The Good Life with all contributors invited to engage in a professional recording process. To date 500 CDs have sold and the songs are sung by groups around Australia.

acabellas groups have brought music to countless local events over the last 7 years and are valued fabric of the local arts landscape.

This contribution has been celebrated significantly in 2009/10 with acabellas’ leader Belinda McArdle’s nomination to be the Creative Artist– Inspiring Australians on the cover of the Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula’s White and Yellow Pages.
