‘I have a song – share it with me’
- acabellas methods

We choose to teach the songs we share aurally – that is – by singing them or demonstrating them for participants. We have learned that when a participant can engage with a song by hearing it first learning is more effective.

We use a combination of aural and visual techniques (pitch patterning with the hands or body and traditional conducting cues) to teach and lead songs.

We sing acapella sometimes and at other times employ guitar, mandolin, ukulele, piano, shruti box, bells or more to support the song. The original context of the song is considered when choosing an accompanying instrument.

We provide lyrics sheets where needed in the session to help visualisation or melody and memory.

We recognise the process of assembling the group song is as exciting as the result and is an excellent tool for nourishing the brain, body and soul!

Testimonial: In my professional life I work as a social planner and I have a good understanding of the social health needs of our community. I believe that the Acabellas singing group provides an extremely valuable social and community connection for many people across the Barwon Region.
